PIP re-evaluation
Last Monday, we returned to the office after the Christmas break and contacted the DWP to chase a PIP (Personal Independence Payment) appeal that was submitted back in December.
Our lovely client is in her fifties and has global learning delays that date back to the 1970’s. She has never been formally diagnosed due to her huge fear of medical professionals and hasn’t seen a GP in over 20 years.
The DWP assessed that she was capable of looking after herself back in September following a telephone assessment. After this assessment, the DWP refused her PIP claim and also took away her DLA (Disability Living Allowance). She is unable to work due to her circumstances so this brought a huge amount of stress and worry onto our shoulders.
After being passed through to 3 different departments at with the Local Authority we finally managed to find a wonderful case worker who arranged for an assessment as to our client’s abilities. Emily (our Managing Director who has known and supported our client for many years) attended with the case worker and her report concluded that she struggled with a number of areas of day to day care and required live in care.
Along with Medical Records dating from 1979 to date, we submitted this information to the DWP and awaited a response to our appeal.
We finally got the fantastic news that a reconsideration had been made and that our client was entitled to her PIP after all! This was a huge relief to her and her companion who assists her – there was comfort knowing she will get the funds she needs to assist with her care needs and day to day expenses.
We worked really hard to ensure that we had enough evidence to submit to the DWP and receiving this thank you card from our client made our day.
