One of our core values at Enable is to allow people to live safely at home without worry. Sadly there are people out there that prey on the vulnerable with cleverly worded scams aimed at extracting their hard saved money.
Here is a list of the most common postal scams and how to spot them:
- Unclaimed inheritance – these can refer to real law firms and appear to have genuine addresses or websites – you can check these with the Solicitors Regulation Authority http://www.sra.org.uk/consumers/news-alerts.pageor give us a call on 01243 680 680 and we would be happy to check for you.
- Lotteries and Prize Draws – these are scams if they contain a premium number rate to call or you have to pay fees to release your prize.A genuine lottery won’t ever ask you to pay a fee or call a premium number
- Hard luck stories or advance fee fraud – you may receive a letter asking you for money to help with an operation or to transfer money from another country for a reward – do not reply to any of these even to say no, put them straight in the bin, they are not genuine.
- Pyramid schemes – if something is offering you profit for little or no risk then it is likely to be a scam. We will be happy to check these out for you if you are concerned or you think it could be a genuine investment offer. Just call us on 01243 680 680 and we can look into them for you.
